Royal Academy of Dance – Ballet Syllabus
The
Royal Academy of Dance holds examinations in classical ballet which tests the
student’s progress and ability. The R.A.D. Syllabus is a world-wide
organization based in London, England with professionally trained examiners
from around the world who conduct the exams.
The
Academy’s Syllabus has been devised with great care to ensure the safe and
correct training of students.
The
Academy considers careful training of young children in classical ballet to be
vitally important. The Syllabus has been professionally devised with
great care to enable a child to progress though their dance training in planned
stages, demanding no more of a young body than it can cope with.
Teachers’ following the Royal Academy of Dance system encourages students to
achieve their personal best in the understanding, appreciation and performance
of classical ballet. Whatever age or stage they may have reached,
students who study with the a Royal Academy of Dance trained teacher can be
confident that they are receiving a comprehensive, well structured and relevant
education in classical ballet. They can be sure that they will be taught
according to safe principles and that they will be evaluated through
progressively developed graded examiners.
Only RAD Registered Teachers may enter students for the RAD exams. Students trained
in the method have the advantage of their RAD standing being accepted at any
RAD school in any country.
Exam
registration forms will be sent out to qualifying students prior to December.
Graded Vocational Exam Classes
Placement will be determined by director or on completion of previous
grade

Pre –
Primary ( Ages 6-7) – 45 min class once a week

Primary
(Ages 8 and up) – 1 Hour class once a week

1 (Ages -9 and over) – 2 – 1 Hour classes a week

Grade
2 – 5 (Ages -9 and over) – 2 – 1 Hour classes a week
- Grade 6 – 8 (Ages 12 and over) – 2 – 1.25 hour classes a week
Vocational Graded Ballet
For those seeking more challenging work towards a deeper understanding of classical ballet and working towards a professional career. Classes include pointe work:
- Intermediate Foundation – 2 – 1.25 Hour Classes a week plus a 45 min Pointe Class
- Intermediate - 2 - 3 – 1.25 Hour Classes a week plus a 1 hour Pointe Class
- Advance Foundation - 2 - 3 – 1.25 Hour Classes a week plus a 1 hour Pointe Class
- Advance 1- 2 - 3 – 1.25 Hour Classes a week plus a 1 hour Pointe Class
- Advance 2 - 2 - 3 – 1.25 Hour Classes a week plus a 1 hour Pointe Class
A minimum of three classes per week is required for major examinations. Placement for these classes shall be at the discretion of the teacher / Studio director.
